What was the title of C.S. Lewis’s 1952 book of Christian apologetics?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis’s 1952 book of Christian apologetics was titled Mere Christianity.

Mere Christianity grew out of radio talks Lewis gave for the BBC during the Second World War. The broadcasts were intended to explain and defend basic Christian beliefs in language accessible to a broad audience rather than to promote one particular denomination.

Lewis revised and expanded the material into a book, published in 1952. The work discusses morality, belief, Christian doctrine, and the relationship between reason and faith. Its title refers to the shared core of Christianity rather than to a separate denomination called “Mere Christianity.”

The book is often mentioned alongside Lewis’s other nonfiction works, including The Problem of Pain and Miracles. It remains one of his most widely read apologetic works, but it should not be confused with the earlier BBC broadcasts, which were later collected and reshaped for publication.
