What was the ship class of USS Arizona, sunk at Pearl Harbor?

The story behind the answer

USS Arizona was a Pennsylvania-class battleship.

The Pennsylvania class consisted of two super-dreadnought battleships built for the United States Navy: USS Pennsylvania and USS Arizona. Arizona was authorized before World War I, launched in 1915, and commissioned in 1916. The class carried twelve 14-inch guns in four triple turrets and was designed for heavy offensive and defensive power.

Arizona’s sister ship, USS Pennsylvania, was in dry dock during the attack and suffered less damage than the battleships moored along Battleship Row. Class names can cause confusion because many Pearl Harbor ships belonged to other battleship classes. USS Nevada was a Nevada-class ship, while USS Tennessee and USS West Virginia were Tennessee-class battleships. Arizona’s class is especially significant because its wreck remains one of the best-known surviving symbols of the attack.
