What was The Pokémon Company's former name?

The story behind the answer

The Pokémon Company's former name was Pokémon Center Co., Ltd.

Nintendo, Creatures, and Game Freak established Pokémon Center Co., Ltd. in April 1998 as a joint venture to manage Pokémon Center stores in Japan. The first Pokémon Center location opened in Nihonbashi, Tokyo, in July 1998.

As the franchise expanded, the organization needed to manage far more than retail stores. Licensed merchandise, the anime, films, games, trading cards, and international business all required coordinated brand management. In October 2000, the company broadened its role and adopted the name The Pokémon Company.

Pokémon USA, Inc. was a separate affiliated company established in 2001 to handle operations in the United States. The Pokémon Company International was later created to manage regions outside Asia. These names are related, but neither is the direct former name of the Japanese parent company.
