Answer
Operation Coronet
The planned second phase of Operation Downfall, aimed at the area near Tokyo, was called Operation Coronet.
Coronet was intended to invade the Kanto Plain on Honshu, Japan’s largest island. The plain surrounds Tokyo and was the country’s political and industrial heartland. The operation was tentatively scheduled for March 1, 1946, after Operation Olympic had captured and developed bases on Kyushu.
Coronet was expected to be even larger than Olympic, with American forces landing near Kujukuri Beach and Hiratsuka. The plan included multiple U.S. armies and possible British Commonwealth participation. Japan’s surrender in August 1945 made the invasion unnecessary. Coronet should not be confused with Operation Ketsugo, the Japanese defensive plan for resisting an Allied invasion of the home islands.
