What was the original title of the music service now known as Pandora?

The story behind the answer

The music service now known as Pandora was originally called Savage Beast Technologies.

Savage Beast Technologies was founded in 2000 by Tim Westergren, Jon Jacobi, and Will Glaser. The company developed the Music Genome Project, a system that analyzes songs using many musical characteristics and uses those features to create personalized radio stations. This technology became the foundation of Pandora’s recommendation service.

The company changed its name to Pandora Media in 2005, before launching Pandora Radio to the public. The service became known for internet radio stations built around artists, songs, or genres rather than for offering users unlimited on-demand access to any track.

The name Pandora connects the service to the idea of opening a container filled with many possibilities, although the company’s core technology is music recommendation. It is distinct from Pandora in Greek mythology, Saturn’s moon, and the fictional moon in Avatar.
