Wenlock was the official mascot of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.
Wenlock was one of two metallic-looking characters created for London 2012. The mascot represented the Olympic Games, while its counterpart, Mandeville, represented the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Both were designed by the London agency Iris and unveiled on 19 May 2010.
Wenlock’s name comes from Much Wenlock in Shropshire, a town associated with the Wenlock Olympian Games. Those nineteenth-century sporting festivals helped inspire the modern Olympic movement through their emphasis on organized athletic competition.
Mandeville’s name refers to Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire, an important birthplace of the modern Paralympic movement. Cobi was the mascot of Barcelona 1992, and Misha belonged to Moscow 1980, so neither is connected with London 2012.
