Answer
Black Tuesday
Answer
Black Tuesday
October 29, 1929, the climax of the Wall Street Crash, was nicknamed Black Tuesday.
On that day, investors traded millions of shares while prices collapsed across the New York Stock Exchange. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost nearly 12%, following a fall of about 13% on Black Monday, October 28. The selling destroyed enormous amounts of paper wealth and intensified public fear.
Black Tuesday did not single-handedly cause the Great Depression. The depression developed through a wider combination of financial failures, falling demand, bank collapses, debt problems, deflation, and policy mistakes. However, the crash became its most recognizable financial symbol.
The surrounding terminology can cause confusion. Black Thursday refers to October 24, 1929, when heavy selling first attracted worldwide attention. Black Monday and Black Tuesday followed the next week. The stock market continued declining after October 29 and did not reach its eventual low until July 1932.
