What was the name of Warren Buffett's investment partnership founded in 1956?

The story behind the answer

Warren Buffett’s investment partnership founded in 1956 was Buffett Partnership Ltd. It became his main investment vehicle before he transformed Berkshire Hathaway into the core of his business empire.

After Benjamin Graham retired and closed Graham-Newman Corporation in 1956, Buffett returned to Omaha with personal savings of more than $174,000. He began organizing investment partnerships for relatives, friends and other limited partners, applying the value-investing ideas he had learned from Graham.

The partnership structure allowed Buffett to act as general partner while outside investors supplied most of the capital. He bought undervalued securities, pursued arbitrage opportunities and occasionally took influential positions in companies. By the early 1960s, the various partnerships had been consolidated under the Buffett Partnership Ltd. name.

The partnership achieved remarkable results, averaging roughly 29.5% annually from 1957 through 1969, according to figures later cited by Buffett. It invested in Berkshire Hathaway and ultimately helped Buffett gain control of the textile company. Buffett liquidated the partnership in 1969, distributing assets that included Berkshire shares to its partners.
