What was the name of Van Halen's third album?

The story behind the answer

Van Halen’s third album was Women and Children First. Released on March 26, 1980, it followed the band’s self-titled debut and Van Halen II, both of which had established the group as one of hard rock’s biggest new acts.

Produced by Ted Templeman and engineered by Donn Landee, the album was recorded at Sunset Sound in Hollywood. It includes “And the Cradle Will Rock...,” “Everybody Wants Some!!,” “Fools,” and “Romeo Delight.” The record is often viewed as a heavier, more aggressive step in the band’s early development.

A notable distinction is that Women and Children First was Van Halen’s first album to contain no cover songs. Eddie Van Halen also experimented with keyboards: the opening track’s unusual sound comes from a Wurlitzer electric piano processed through a guitar amplifier, rather than from a conventional electric guitar.

The most common mix-up is confusing the album with Fair Warning, which was Van Halen’s fourth studio album and arrived in 1981.
