What was the name of the Wall Street crash that began on October 24, 1929?

The story behind the answer

The Wall Street Crash of 1929 began on October 24, 1929, and became the most famous stock-market collapse of the twentieth century.

The first major panic day was Black Thursday, when heavy selling hit the New York Stock Exchange. Selling intensified on Black Monday, October 28, and Black Tuesday, October 29. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost nearly 25% across those two sessions.

The crash followed years of speculative buying, widespread use of borrowed money, slowing economic growth, and weakening industrial profits. It did not by itself cause the entire Great Depression, but it severely damaged confidence and reduced wealth.

A common mix-up is treating Black Tuesday as the name of the whole event. Black Tuesday was one especially severe day within the broader Wall Street Crash of 1929.
