Answer
Facebook Credits
Answer
Facebook Credits
Facebook's virtual currency launched in 2009 was Facebook Credits.
Facebook Credits let users buy virtual goods in games and other applications built on the Facebook Platform. The system entered an alpha stage in May 2009 and later moved into beta testing in February 2010. Facebook presented Credits as a shared payment system that could work across multiple games instead of requiring every application to use a separate currency.
The currency operated internationally and supported 15 currencies. At one stage, one U.S. dollar represented 10 Facebook Credits. Facebook also planned to make Credits the required payment method for games on its platform, with the company retaining 30 percent of revenue and developers receiving 70 percent.
The experiment did not last. Facebook announced in June 2012 that it would abandon its own currency in favor of local currencies, and Facebook Credits were officially removed in September 2013. They are sometimes confused with ordinary Facebook payment services or game-specific points.
