What was the name of the U.S. order issued to Japan's forces after the 1945 surrender?

The story behind the answer

General Order No. 1 was the U.S. order issued to Japan's forces after the 1945 surrender.

The order was prepared by the United States Joint Chiefs of Staff and approved by President Harry S. Truman on August 17, 1945. Douglas MacArthur issued it to Japan's representatives after the surrender and it was then transmitted to Japanese forces on September 2.

It directed Japanese forces to surrender to designated Allied commanders, disclose military information, preserve equipment, and stop further operations. It also specified which Allied commands would receive Japanese surrenders in different regions of Asia and the Pacific.

One important provision divided responsibility in Korea at the 38th parallel. Japanese forces north of the line were to surrender to Soviet forces, while those south of it were to surrender to U.S. forces. This wartime surrender arrangement helped shape Korea's postwar division.
