What was the name of the treaty that ended the American Revolutionary War?

The story behind the answer

The Treaty of Paris ended the American Revolutionary War.

Representatives of Great Britain and the United States signed the treaty in Paris on September 3, 1783. Britain recognized the United States as free, sovereign, and independent states, formally accepting the outcome of the war.

The agreement established generous boundaries for the new nation, extending west to the Mississippi River, north to British North America, and south toward Spanish Florida. It also addressed fishing rights, prisoners of war, and property claims involving Loyalists.

The treaty was part of the wider Peace of Paris, which included separate agreements between Britain and France, Spain, and the Dutch Republic. The Confederation Congress ratified the American-British treaty on January 14, 1784, in Annapolis, Maryland. Fighting had largely stopped after Yorktown, but the treaty provided the formal diplomatic conclusion.
