RMS Olympic
Answer
RMS Olympic
The ship on which Marie Curie sailed to the United States in 1921 was RMS Olympic.
The White Star Line ocean liner carried Curie, her daughters Irène and Ève, and journalist Marie “Missy” Meloney across the Atlantic. Curie arrived in New York on 11 May 1921 for a celebrated American tour organized around a gift of one gram of radium.
RMS Olympic was launched in 1910 and entered service in 1911. It was the older sister ship of RMS Titanic and HMHS Britannic, which is why quiz players sometimes confuse their names. Unlike Titanic, Olympic had a long commercial career and remained in service until the 1930s.
During the visit, President Warren G. Harding presented Curie with the radium at the White House. The voyage helped supply her Paris laboratory, where radium was being studied for scientific and medical uses.
