What was the name of the nightclub in the 1942 film Casablanca?

The nightclub in the 1942 film Casablanca is Rick's Café Américain.

Owned by the cynical American expatriate Rick Blaine, the café is both a nightclub and gambling den in wartime Casablanca, then part of French Morocco. Its customers include refugees seeking passage to neutral Lisbon, Vichy French officials, German officers, and black-market operators.

The café is central to the film's plot. Rick's friend Sam performs there, including the famous song “As Time Goes By,” and Victor Laszlo and Ilsa Lund seek Rick's help in escaping Europe. The venue also hosts the dramatic scene in which Laszlo leads the patrons in singing “La Marseillaise” to drown out German officers singing a Nazi anthem.

Although the film made Rick's café famous, the interior was a Warner Bros. studio set rather than a real Casablanca nightclub. A real-life Rick's Café opened in Casablanca in 2004, designed as a reconstruction inspired by the fictional establishment. The film's café should not be confused with Signor Ferrari's competing business, the Blue Parrot.
