Ghost Ranch was the New Mexico ranch that supplied Georgia O'Keeffe with many subjects.
O'Keeffe began visiting Ghost Ranch in the early 1930s. The property, officially part of the Piedra Lumbre basin, contains dramatic cliffs, mesas, and broad desert views. Its changing light and geological forms became important sources for her paintings and drawings.
Ghost Ranch is associated with O'Keeffe's northern New Mexico period, although she also worked extensively around Abiquiu and elsewhere in the state. The ranch was not simply a studio location: it was part of a broader landscape network that included bones, hills, ranch buildings, and distant mountains. Today Ghost Ranch is an education and retreat center with museums and tours connected to the region's natural and cultural history.
