The Korean houseboy at the 4077th M*A*S*H was named Ho-Jon. He served the camp’s doctors and became a sympathetic figure whom Hawkeye, Trapper, and the other “Swampmen” tried to help during the Korean War.
Ho-Jon’s story differs across M*A*S*H versions. In the original novel, he is a bright 17-year-old Korean living in Seoul who is drafted into the South Korean army, wounded, and sent to the 4077th for treatment. After recovering, he returns to his duties and the doctors raise money to send him to Hawkeye’s college in the United States.
The television pilot keeps the college storyline but changes some details. In a later episode, Ho-Jon steals valuables and Hawkeye’s poker winnings to bribe border guards so his family can escape from the North. The character was played by Patrick Adiarte in the television series and by Kim Atwood in the film. Park, Lee, and Kim are generic Korean surnames, not the character’s name.
