What was the name of the Jewish ghetto established by Nazi Germany in Łódź in 1940?

The story behind the answer

The Jewish ghetto established by Nazi Germany in Łódź in 1940 was called the Łódź Ghetto, also known by its German name, Litzmannstadt Ghetto.

German authorities sealed the ghetto in April 1940, concentrating Jews from Łódź and later deportees from other parts of occupied Europe. Its residents were subjected to extreme overcrowding, forced labor, hunger, and disease. The ghetto’s administration was headed by Mordechai Chaim Rumkowski.

Łódź was one of the longest-lasting major ghettos under Nazi occupation. Beginning in 1942, many residents were deported to the Chełmno extermination camp; later deportations went to Auschwitz-Birkenau. The ghetto was liquidated in 1944, when most remaining prisoners were sent to Auschwitz.
