Good Humor was the first major ice-cream truck brand, launched from the Good Humor company’s mobile vending operation in 1920.
Good Humor began with frozen treats designed to be sold from specially equipped vehicles. Its signature product was the Good Humor bar, an ice-cream bar on a stick covered with chocolate, which allowed vendors to serve customers conveniently outdoors. The trucks helped make branded ice cream part of everyday American street life.
Good Humor is a company and brand, not simply a generic term for an ice-cream truck. Mister Softee and Mr Whippy became prominent mobile vendors later, in different markets. The Good Humor name also became closely associated with the white trucks, uniformed sellers and bell sounds that defined the early mobile ice-cream trade.
