Odyssey was the Apollo 13 command module that returned its crew safely to Earth in April 1970.
Apollo 13 launched on 11 April with James Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise. Two days later, an oxygen-tank failure in the service module crippled the spacecraft and ended the planned lunar landing.
The astronauts used the lunar module Aquarius as a lifeboat while mission controllers designed procedures to conserve power, water, and oxygen. The crew flew around the Moon and then transferred back to the command module for re-entry.
Odyssey splashed down in the Pacific Ocean on 17 April 1970. The damaged service module was discarded before re-entry, while Aquarius was jettisoned shortly beforehand. The accident led to major changes in tank design, testing, wiring, and mission safety procedures.
