What was the name of the 1975 joint U.S.-Soviet mission that docked Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft?

The story behind the answer

The 1975 joint U.S.-Soviet mission that docked Apollo and Soyuz spacecraft was the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project.

Launched in July 1975, the mission marked the first crewed international spaceflight and the first docking between American and Soviet spacecraft. The American crew flew an Apollo command and service module, while the Soviet crew used a Soyuz spacecraft.

The spacecraft docked in Earth orbit on July 17, 1975, using a specially designed docking module that accommodated the different systems of the two nations. Astronauts and cosmonauts visited each other’s spacecraft and conducted joint experiments.

It is often described as a symbolic end to the Space Race, although U.S.-Soviet competition continued in other areas. The mission also established technical procedures later used in international space cooperation.
