What was the name of the 1929 Wall Street crash’s most famous Tuesday trading session?

The story behind the answer

The 1929 Wall Street crash’s most famous Tuesday trading session was called Black Tuesday.

Black Tuesday occurred on October 29, 1929, when approximately 16 million shares changed hands on the New York Stock Exchange. The Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped about 12 percent that day. The selling followed Black Thursday on October 24 and another major decline on Black Monday, October 28.

The crash ended the speculative boom of the 1920s, but it did not by itself cause every feature of the Great Depression. Falling consumer demand, bank failures, debt, deflation, and policy decisions deepened the economic crisis that followed. Stock prices continued falling after October 1929, and the Dow eventually reached its low in July 1932.

Black Tuesday is often treated as a single-day event, although the Wall Street Crash was a sequence of volatile sessions. The label specifically identifies the October 29 session and should not be used as the name of the entire decade-long economic depression.
