What was the name of Prince's backing band from 1990 onward?

The story behind the answer

Prince’s backing band from 1990 onward was The New Power Generation, commonly abbreviated as the NPG. The group emerged around the 1990 film and album Graffiti Bridge, which included the Prince song “New Power Generation.”

The band made its live debut during Prince’s Nude Tour in 1990 and became prominently credited on the 1991 album Diamonds and Pearls. Its lineup included musicians such as drummer Michael Bland, bassist Sonny T., keyboardist Tommy Barbarella, guitarist Levi Seacer Jr., and vocalist-keyboardist Rosie Gaines. The personnel changed considerably over the years.

The NPG is often confused with The Revolution, Prince’s best-known 1980s band, or with The Time and The Family, two earlier groups closely associated with his Paisley Park circle. The New Power Generation backed Prince for much of the 1990s and 2000s, with a later interruption when 3rdeyegirl became his touring band in 2013.
