What was the name of Operation Downfall's planned first invasion phase?

The story behind the answer

Operation Olympic was the planned first invasion phase of Operation Downfall.

Olympic was scheduled to begin on November 1, 1945, with landings on southern Kyushu, Japan's southernmost main island. The operation aimed to seize territory and airfields that could support a later assault on the Tokyo region. Okinawa, captured by the Allies in June 1945, was intended to serve as a major staging area.

The proposed invasion force included U.S. Army and Marine units supported by a large Allied naval armada. Planners expected Japan to defend Kyushu heavily through its Ketsugo strategy, which envisioned decisive resistance on the home islands.

Operation Olympic was not the same as Operation Coronet. Olympic was the first southern assault, while Coronet was the planned second phase against the Kanto Plain near Tokyo in spring 1946. Japan's surrender in August made both operations unnecessary.
