What was the name of Noah’s Ark’s landing place in the Genesis narrative?

The story behind the answer

In Genesis, Noah’s Ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.

Genesis 8:4 says that the Ark rested on “the mountains of Ararat” after the Flood waters began to recede. The wording is plural and does not identify one particular summit. Ararat is generally associated with the ancient kingdom or region of Urartu, located around parts of eastern Anatolia and the southern Caucasus.

A common mix-up is to answer “Mount Ararat.” That name refers especially to the modern volcanic peak in eastern Turkey, while the biblical text says “mountains of Ararat.” Later traditions and searches for the Ark often focus on Mount Ararat, but that narrower identification is not stated by Genesis itself.

The narrative next describes Noah sending out birds to assess whether the land had dried. The Ark’s resting place is therefore part of the receding-water sequence, not a separate account of a confirmed archaeological discovery.
