Facebook’s Q&A feature launched in 2010 was called Facebook Questions.

Facebook began testing Questions in May 2010 and started rolling the service out more broadly that summer. It was designed to let users ask questions, collect answers from friends and other Facebook members, and organize responses around topics. The feature was widely viewed as Facebook’s attempt to compete with question-and-answer services such as Yahoo Answers and Quora.

Questions could be posted from a dedicated Questions area, from the publisher used for status updates, and eventually through Facebook’s search interface. The service supported both ordinary written responses and poll-like choices, making it useful for opinion questions as well as factual ones.

Facebook later described the product as Facebook Questions and announced an expanded version in March 2011. It was not the same as a user posting a question as a normal status update. That everyday posting behavior continued independently, while Questions was a dedicated product with its own answer and polling functions.
