Disney’s Bicentennial parade presented at Disneyland and Walt Disney World in 1975–76 was called America on Parade.
The parade was created for the United States Bicentennial and also marked Disneyland’s 20th anniversary and the Magic Kingdom’s fifth anniversary. It first ran during the summer of 1975 and continued through 1976, appearing in both Disney parks.
Bob Jani, Disneyland’s director of entertainment, led the production, while theatrical designer Peter Larkin created the parade’s float units. The presentation used historical and cultural themes, including transportation, sports, technology, television, film, and American symbols.
The parade featured a specially commissioned Sherman Brothers song titled “The Glorious Fourth,” which is a common source of confusion. That was the song, not the parade’s name. A 1976 television special, Walt Disney’s America on Parade, later presented the event to a wider audience.
