What was the name of Coco Chanel’s 1922 perfume?

The story behind the answer

Coco Chanel’s 1922 perfume was Chanel No. 22.

The fragrance was created by Ernest Beaux, the perfumer who also developed Chanel No. 5. Its name followed Chanel’s fondness for numbered perfume titles rather than a conventional floral or place name.

Chanel No. 22 is generally described as a floral aldehyde fragrance. It was introduced after Chanel No. 5 and became part of the early perfume collection associated with the Chanel fashion house.

The number can cause confusion because Chanel later released several other numbered fragrances, including Chanel No. 19, launched in 1970. Chanel No. 22 should also not be mistaken for Chanel No. 5, which debuted in 1921 and became the house’s best-known perfume.
