Banksy’s 2015 temporary theme park in Weston-super-Mare was called Dismaland.
Dismaland opened at the Tropicana, a disused lido and leisure site in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, England. Banksy described it as a bemusement park, using the format of a cheerful family attraction to present dark, satirical works about politics, consumerism, migration, surveillance, and social inequality.
The project ran for about five weeks, from August to September 2015, and included works by Banksy alongside pieces by more than 50 other artists. Visitors encountered deliberately bleak versions of familiar amusement-park features, including a ruined castle and a dysfunctional merchandise stall.
After the event closed, building materials and installations were sent to Calais, France, where some were used in projects supporting migrants. Dismaland is therefore both an art exhibition and a temporary cultural event, not a permanent theme park.
