What was the name of Andy Taylor’s girlfriend who taught school? Her name was Helen Crump.

Helen Crump is the schoolteacher who becomes Sheriff Andy Taylor’s girlfriend on The Andy Griffith Show. Aneta Corsaut played Helen, who is introduced in the third-season episode “Andy Discovers America,” first broadcast in 1963.

Helen initially meets Andy through a disagreement involving her students, including Andy’s son, Opie. Their relationship develops gradually, and she becomes one of the show’s most important recurring characters. The series presents her as intelligent, independent, and professionally committed, although it also uses her occasional domestic shortcomings—especially her cooking—as comic material.

Helen and Andy’s story continues beyond the original sitcom. In the first episode of the spinoff Mayberry R.F.D., they marry and later move to Raleigh. The character should not be confused with Aunt Bee, Andy’s aunt and housekeeper, or Clara Edwards, who is Barney Fife’s romantic partner.
