What was the model name of BMW's first front-wheel-drive car?

The story behind the answer

BMW’s first front-wheel-drive model was the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer.

The first-generation Active Tourer, internally coded F45, was introduced in 2014 as a five-door compact MPV. It represented a major departure for BMW because the company had traditionally emphasized rear-wheel drive in its passenger cars. The vehicle was based on the front-wheel-drive UKL2 platform, shared with related Mini products.

BMW designed the Active Tourer to compete with practical premium vehicles such as the Mercedes-Benz B-Class. Its transverse engine layout created more cabin and cargo flexibility than the longitudinal, rear-wheel-drive architecture used by many earlier BMWs. An optional all-wheel-drive version was also offered under the xDrive name.

The Mini brand had used front-wheel drive before this, but Mini is not the answer because the question asks for the first BMW-branded model. The X1 also later used a front-wheel-drive-based platform in some generations, while the conventional 1 Series was historically rear-wheel drive before its later redesign.
