What was the given name of Isaac Newton's father?

The story behind the answer

Isaac Newton’s father was named Isaac Newton. He was a yeoman farmer at Woolsthorpe in Lincolnshire and died about three months before his son was born in 1642.

The younger Newton was born prematurely at Woolsthorpe Manor and grew up with the unusual distinction of sharing his father’s full name. His mother, Hannah Ayscough, later remarried the Reverend Barnabas Smith, leaving Newton in the care of his maternal grandmother for several years.

This family history is sometimes confused because Newton’s father died before Newton’s birth, while his stepfather lived until Newton was a teenager. The famous scientist therefore did not inherit his name from a living parent who raised him. Newton later attended Trinity College, Cambridge, where his mathematical and scientific career took shape.
