What was the first Scooby-Doo feature film released directly to video?

The story behind the answer

The first Scooby-Doo feature film released directly to video was Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Warner Bros. released the animated movie in 1998, beginning a highly successful run of feature-length home-video adventures.

The film reunited Mystery Inc. after the friends had temporarily gone their separate ways. Its story took the gang to Moonscar Island, where they encountered zombies and other supernatural phenomena. Unlike many classic episodes, the apparent monsters were not simply people wearing masks.

Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost followed in 1999, while Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders arrived in 2000. Those titles are sometimes mistakenly identified as the first direct-to-video feature because they are also prominent entries from the same era.

Zombie Island became especially influential among fans because of its darker atmosphere, stronger character development, and willingness to make the supernatural elements real.
