What was the first Pokémon video game generation to debut on Nintendo DS?
Answer
Generation IV
Answer
Generation IV
Generation IV was the first Pokémon video game generation to debut on Nintendo DS.
Its opening titles were Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, released in Japan on September 28, 2006. The games used the Nintendo DS’s two screens, touchscreen controls, and wireless capabilities while retaining the series’ role-playing structure.
Diamond and Pearl introduced 107 new Pokémon and the Sinnoh region. They also expanded online trading and battling through Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, allowing players to interact over the internet rather than relying only on a local Game Link Cable.
Generation IV is sometimes mistaken for Generation III because both followed the Game Boy Advance era closely. Generation III began with Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire on Game Boy Advance, whereas Diamond and Pearl marked the move to Nintendo DS and began the next generation.
