Pokémon Yellow was the first Pokémon game released worldwide with Pikachu as its central character.
Released for the Game Boy, Pokémon Yellow is an enhanced version of the first-generation games. It was designed to reflect elements of the Pokémon anime, including Pikachu following the player outside its Poké Ball and reacting differently to the player’s actions.
Unlike Pokémon Red and Blue, Yellow begins with Pikachu rather than letting the player choose Bulbasaur, Charmander, or Squirtle. The player can eventually obtain all three original starter Pokémon during the adventure, although they are not selected at the beginning.
The game was first released in Japan on September 12, 1998, as Pocket Monsters Yellow. It reached North America and Europe in 1999. Pokémon Yellow is sometimes called a remake, but it is more precisely an enhanced version of the first-generation games with anime-inspired changes.
