What was the first major armed clash of the American Revolution commemorated during America250?

The story behind the answer

The Battles of Lexington and Concord were the first major armed clashes of the American Revolution commemorated during America250.

The fighting began on April 19, 1775, in Massachusetts. British troops marched from Boston toward Concord to seize military supplies, while colonial militia mobilized to oppose them. The first shots were exchanged at Lexington.

After the encounter there, the British column continued toward Concord and then withdrew toward Boston under sustained militia fire. The day’s fighting marked the opening of armed conflict between the colonies and Great Britain.

The battles occurred more than a year before the Declaration of Independence. America250 focuses on 1776 and the Declaration’s 250th anniversary, but the broader commemoration also looks back to the Revolution that made independence possible. Bunker Hill followed in June 1775; Saratoga and Yorktown came later.
