Jungle was the first English-language Pokémon TCG expansion released after Base Set.
The set launched in North America on June 16, 1999, following the English Base Set’s United States release on January 9, 1999. Jungle was the second English Pokémon TCG set and expanded the card pool with 45 new Pokémon, including Scyther, Snorlax, and Wigglytuff.
Jungle contained 64 cards in total and became notable for its combination of holographic and non-holographic versions of rare cards. Its set symbol depicts a stylized jungle scene, helping collectors identify the expansion on cards.
A common source of confusion is the difference between the Japanese and English release histories. Japan’s first Pokémon card product appeared in 1996, while the English-language Base Set arrived later. In the English sequence, Fossil followed Jungle as the third expansion, while Team Rocket came later.
