What was the final score of the 2018 MLB All-Star game?

The story behind the answer

The American League defeated the National League 8–6 in the 2018 MLB All-Star Game.

The 89th All-Star Game was played on July 17, 2018, at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The score was tied after nine innings, so the American League won in the 10th inning. The game featured an unusual amount of power: the two teams combined for 10 home runs, an All-Star Game record at the time.

The American League collected 13 hits and scored three runs in the top of the 10th. The National League answered with one run in the bottom half but could not complete the comeback. Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman was named the game’s Most Valuable Player.

The notation “AL 8–NL 6” is equivalent to “American League 8, National League 6.” It is sometimes confused with the 2017 All-Star Game, which the American League won 2–1, or with other recent All-Star contests decided by much narrower margins.
