What was the final planned invasion target in Operation Coronet?

The story behind the answer

The Kantō Plain was the planned target of Operation Coronet, the second stage of the proposed invasion of Japan.

Operation Coronet was intended to follow Operation Olympic, which would have invaded Kyushu. Coronet was scheduled for March 1946 and aimed at the Kantō Plain on Honshu, Japan’s largest island. Tokyo and Yokohama are located in this broad plain, making it the strategic center of the planned operation.

The plan was designed for a major Allied landing and advance toward the Tokyo area. Its projected scale reflected Allied expectations that Japan would defend its home islands intensively. The campaign never occurred because Japan surrendered in August 1945, before Olympic or Coronet could begin.

The Kantō Plain is sometimes confused with Kyushu because both appear in discussions of Operation Downfall. Kyushu was the target of Olympic, the first stage. The Kantō Plain was the target of Coronet, the later stage that would have followed if the war had continued.
