What was the engine displacement of the first-generation Dodge Viper?

The first-generation Dodge Viper had an 8.0-liter engine. Its naturally aspirated V10 powered the original Viper RT/10 roadster, which went on sale in January 1992.

The engine was developed by Chrysler from its LA-series V8 architecture, adding two cylinders and using an aluminum block and cylinder heads. Lamborghini, then owned by Chrysler, assisted with the aluminum casting and engine development. The result was an unusual 90-degree, odd-firing V10 with a distinctive exhaust note and enormous torque for its era.

The first-generation Viper produced about 400 horsepower at 4,600 rpm and 465 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm. It was deliberately raw: early cars lacked airbags, anti-lock brakes, traction control, air conditioning, and even conventional exterior door handles. Later Viper generations retained the 8.0-liter displacement before the engine grew to 8.3 liters for the third generation.
