What was the displacement of the C6 Corvette Z06's engine?

The story behind the answer

The C6 Corvette Z06’s engine had a displacement of 7.0 liters. Its naturally aspirated LS7 V8 displaced 427.8 cubic inches, commonly rounded to 7.0 liters and associated with the historic 427 Corvette engines of the past.

The LS7 debuted in the 2006-model-year Z06. It used an all-aluminum block and cylinder heads, a dry-sump lubrication system, titanium connecting rods, and lightweight valves. Those features helped the engine deliver high-rpm performance while keeping mass low enough to support the Z06’s track-focused mission.

Chevrolet rated the LS7 at 505 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque in the C6 Z06. Its 4.125-inch bore and 4.000-inch stroke produced the familiar “427” identity, even though the engine’s precise displacement was slightly above 427 cubic inches.

The 7.0-liter LS7 is easy to confuse with other C6 engines. The base Corvette used 6.0- or 6.2-liter V8s depending on model year, while the later supercharged ZR1 used the 6.2-liter LS9. The Z06’s defining engine was the large-displacement, naturally aspirated LS7.
