What was the codename for the planned first phase of invading Japan in 1945?

The story behind the answer

Operation Olympic was the planned first phase of the Allied invasion of Japan. It was intended to land on southern Kyushu on November 1, 1945, but Japan surrendered before the operation began.

Olympic was part of the larger Operation Downfall plan. Its main objective was to seize the southern portion of Kyushu, establish airfields, and create a base for the later invasion of Honshu. Allied forces expected the island to be heavily defended.

The planned force included a huge naval armada and numerous Army divisions. The landing beaches were assigned code names based on automobiles, including Austin, Buick, Cadillac, and Stutz. Okinawa was to be used as a staging area for the attack.

Operation Olympic is sometimes confused with Operation Coronet, which was the second phase aimed at the Kanto Plain near Tokyo. Neither operation was executed.
