Answer
Operation Olympic
Operation Olympic was the codename for the planned Allied invasion of southern Kyūshū in November 1945.
Olympic formed the first stage of Operation Downfall, the proposed invasion of Japan. Allied planners intended to land on southern Kyūshū, capture airfields and ports, and use the island as a base for later operations against Honshū.
The U.S. Sixth Army was assigned to the operation. The tentative target date was November 1, 1945, and planning called for landings at several points, including Miyazaki, Ariake, and Kushikino. Okinawa, captured in June 1945, was expected to serve as a major staging area.
Olympic was never executed because Japan surrendered in August. The name is often confused with Coronet, the second planned stage of Downfall. Coronet would have attacked the Kantō Plain near Tokyo in spring 1946, after Olympic had secured southern Kyūshū.
