What was the Aztec festival dedicated to Huitzilopochtli in the 15th month?

The story behind the answer

Panquetzaliztli was the Aztec festival dedicated to Huitzilopochtli in the fifteenth month of the solar calendar. Its name is commonly translated as “banner raising,” reflecting the festival’s ceremonial imagery and associations with the war and sun god.

Huitzilopochtli was the patron deity of the Mexica people and the central god of Tenochtitlan. Panquetzaliztli honored him through processions, singing, dancing, offerings, and military symbolism. The festival formed part of the 18-month solar calendar, whose months contained 20 days each.

Panquetzaliztli is often confused with other Aztec festivals because several were dedicated to major gods or involved similar public ceremonies. Toxcatl, for example, was associated with Tezcatlipoca, while Xocotl Huetzi honored Xiuhtecuhtli and involved a different seasonal ritual cycle. Depending on the calendar correlation used, Panquetzaliztli is placed roughly from late November into early December.
