What was the Allied code name for the planned invasion of Japan before Japan surrendered?

The story behind the answer

Operation Downfall was the Allied code name for the planned invasion of Japan before Japan surrendered. It was conceived as a two-stage campaign that would have begun with an invasion of Kyushu.

The first stage, Operation Olympic, was scheduled for November 1945. The second stage, Operation Coronet, was planned for an assault on Honshu near Tokyo in March 1946. These operations were never carried out because Japan accepted surrender terms in August 1945.

Planning for Downfall reflected Allied expectations of fierce resistance. Japanese forces were preparing for a national defense effort, and Allied planners anticipated very high casualties. The atomic bombings, the Soviet entry into the war against Japan, and Japan’s internal political crisis changed the situation before the invasion could begin.
