What was the 2015 collapse in Chinese share prices commonly called?

The story behind the answer

The 2015 collapse in Chinese share prices is commonly called the 2015 Chinese stock market crash.

China’s mainland stock markets surged from mid-2014 into June 2015, with large numbers of individual investors buying shares and borrowing money to trade. The Shanghai Composite reached a 2015 peak on 12 June before falling sharply.

The decline accelerated in the summer. On 24 August 2015, often called Black Monday in China, the Shanghai Composite fell 8.49%, while other global markets also dropped amid fears about China’s economy and policy response.

The episode is sometimes described as 2015–16 Chinese stock-market turbulence because volatility continued into early 2016. It was not the same event as the 2007–08 global financial crisis.
