Answer
Operation August Storm
The 1945 Soviet campaign against Japanese-held Manchuria was commonly called Operation August Storm in the West.
The campaign began on August 9, 1945, when Soviet forces invaded Japanese-held Manchuria and the puppet states of Manchukuo and Mengjiang. It was also known as the Manchurian Strategic Offensive Operation or the Manchurian Operation.
The Soviet entry into the Pacific War came between the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The offensive added military pressure on Japan during the final phase of the surrender crisis and rapidly overwhelmed the Japanese Kwantung Army.
Operation August Storm is sometimes confused with Operation Downfall, the planned Allied invasion of Japan. Downfall was never launched because Japan surrendered before the invasion could occur.
