What was Tesla's first sport utility vehicle?

Tesla’s first sport utility vehicle was the Model X. It was developed as a larger, more practical companion to the Model S sedan and became Tesla’s first vehicle designed specifically around an SUV-style body.

Tesla unveiled the Model X prototype on February 9, 2012, at its design studios in Hawthorne, California. The vehicle was notable for its battery-electric powertrain, three-row seating, panoramic windshield, and distinctive falcon-wing rear doors. Those doors were engineered to open upward while requiring relatively little side clearance.

The Model X’s launch took longer than originally planned. Tesla initially expected deliveries in 2014, but production was delayed by engineering and supplier challenges, including problems associated with the falcon-wing doors and other complex features. The first customer deliveries began on September 29, 2015, at Tesla’s Fremont factory.

The Model Y, introduced later, is also an SUV-style Tesla, but it was not the first. The Roadster preceded the Model X but was a two-seat sports car, while the Cybertruck arrived years afterward as a pickup truck.
