The faster, more confident follow-up was musically broader, combining R&B, funk, pop, rock, disco, soul, and ballad writing. Its strongest commercial success came from “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” which became Prince’s first U.S. Billboard Hot 100 top-20 hit.
