Jesse Katsopolis was originally named Adam during production of Full House. The character began as Adam Cochran before the name was changed to Jesse, largely at John Stamos's request.
Stamos also influenced the character's surname. Producers changed Cochran to Katsopolis to reflect Stamos's Greek American heritage, with the new surname appearing from the second season onward. In the finished series, the character became widely known as Uncle Jesse.
